Christmas Cards

My three-year-old MacBook Pro suddenly died on me about 10 days before Christmas, so I had no choice but to go back to the drawing table and start working with traditional medium again.  Since Christmas was just around the corner, I decided to take this opportunity to make a few hand-painted greeting cards for some family and friends:

The best thing about giving people an actual card in person is that you get to see their reaction, especially when they find out the cards are uniquely designed and hand-painted.  It makes me want to do this again next year! :)

R.I.P. Teko

Dearest Teko,

Thank you for being such a sweet and thoughtful [pen] friend for the past 10 years. You always sounded so cheerful and optimistic in your letters, and you never failed to pleasantly surprise me with different cat-related birthday presents and souvenirs. Your simple gesture of love had inspired me to love my oversea friends in the same way, and I will continue to do that in remembrance of you.

May you rest in peace, my friend. You will be greatly missed.

A Little Black Cat's Story

A dear friend of mine, Nicola, knew that I am a mega cat lover, so she wrote me a story about a little black cat called Trouble!  But,

"Trouble isn’t his real name, but all the other cats have called him that for so long that it stuck, because he always gets into trouble."

So I've decided to call him "Curio" for now, as it seems to suit his curious nature quite well, heehee.  (And thankfully he didn't get killed by his curiosity, only close calls.)  As for the little girl, well, Nicola didn't give her a name either but I'm going to call her "Cherry" because I keep seeing her wearing a cherry-red French beret, just like Nicola herself. :P

The story itself is surprisingly close to my kind of story-telling style, especially with the protagonist being the good and innocent cat.  Since Nicola is not against the idea that I'm turning this into an animation or a picture book, there's a high possibility that I will publish it in some form by the end of this year!  So stay tuned!

Bad Days

A lot had happened in the past month and I have been on an emotional roller coaster for weeks already... I was planning to draw something for the new year but then I got too tired from work and other errands in life that I simply had to give up drawing in order to get more rest...  I knew I had the word "grumpy" written all over my face (just like Tard the grumpy cat) yet I didn't bother to do anything about it... LOL

In short, life without drawing JUST SUCKS.

Work has been so busy that I hardly have any energy left to draw for fun when I returned home at night... This makes me sad but there's nothing I could do about it at the moment... But if only I could have Saturdays off, if only...

Jeffrey And Cat

I was so caught up with work for the past couple of weeks that I hardly had time to draw for fun. This simple drawing actually took me over a week to finish (when it could have been done within 2 days), and there are a couple more that I've started more than two weeks ago yet still unfinished... I really hope I can strike a better balance between making art for work and fun because the latter is the only way to keep me sane at the moment...

And oh, I want a cat so badly!
